Covid-19 Testing and Travel FAQs

Do airlines accept proof of testing in my patient portal?

  • Before traveling, you should check your airline’s website for their specific requirements on how to submit proof of testing. You should also review your destination’s guidelines.

Can I enter the United States without being vaccinated?

  • If you are a U.S. citizen, you do not have to be vaccinated to enter the country. However, you will have to provide a negative test result or documentation of recovery before boarding your flight back home. Non-U.S. citizens must be vaccinated to enter the country.

When should I get tested for Covid-19?

  • The CDC recommends that you get tested 1-3 days before you travel if you are not vaccinated. Depending on where you are traveling to, you may need to provide proof of negative testing to use public transportation, so it’s wise to get tested so all your bases are covered.

How much does it cost to get tested?

  • Testing costs vary depending on where you go, but Atracare is offering testing at about 50% of the cost of other local clinics. Most insurance companies don’t cover testing for travel unless you have been exposed, so you may have to pay out of pocket. Medicaid does cover travel testing.

Can people who have recently recovered from Covid-19 travel?

  • Yes. Some places will allow to travel if you’ve had covid in the past 90 days because they know you have the antibodies in your system, but you must have completed the quarantine period and have no symptoms. However, you never know what may be required once you enter the country, so obtaining a negative test result is the best way to ensure that your trip runs smoothly.

Do you have to quarantine after returning home from visiting another country?

  • There are no guidelines for quarantining after returning, however, we can test you if you are concerned that you were exposed to covid on your way home.

How can I protect myself when using public transportation?

  • The best thing you can do to keep yourself and others safe is to get vaccinated and wear a mask.

How can I determine my travel risk?

  • Travel health risk assessments for each country are posted here on the CDC website.
