Urgent Care vs. The Emergency Room: Know Where to Go When You Need Care

If you need immediate medical care in Lewes, your first instinct may be to visit the emergency room. However, you may not need to go to the hospital if your emergency isn’t life threatening. At Atracare, we can treat non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries so you can save time and money.
Atracare was founded with the purpose of bringing speedy, high-quality urgent and primary care to the Lewes community. The emergency room can get crowded, especially during the summer months when out-of-town visitors need medical assistance. No one wants to spend all day waiting to be seen, especially when they are sick or hurt. At Atracare, we can get you seen and treated quickly so you can go home and recover sooner.

Did you know that all of our prices are listed directly on the website? Regardless of whether or not you have a copay, or your insurance picks up the bill, it’s nice to know how much your visit will cost before arriving. Learn more about our transparent and easy Self Pay Pricing.

Emergency room vs urgent care

When to Visit the Atracare Urgent Care Clinic

If you need stitches, have a fever, sprained an ankle, or are suffering from a urinary tract infection, you can come into our walk-in clinic to be treated. Those are just a few of the conditions we can diagnose and treat at our facility. Urgent care may be the best option for you if your condition isn’t life threatening and if we have everything at our clinic available to treat you. If we are unable to treat you in our urgent care clinic, we will direct you to the hospital. Our walk-in care clinic is ideal for patients who need medical care that can’t wait for a doctor’s appointment but isn’t urgent enough for a trip to the ER.

When to Go to the Emergency Room

You should not come to Atracare’s urgent care clinic if you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency such as heart attack, stroke, anaphylaxis, vision loss, head trauma, severe wounds or burns, miscarriage, or other emergencies. If you are experiencing heavy bleeding, you should call 911 or get to the emergency room as soon as possible. Urgent care is convenient for many conditions, but life-threatening illnesses and injuries should always be taken care of in the ER.

How Much Does Urgent Care Cost at Atracare?

All of our treatments and their prices are available on the self-pay page of our website. Walk-in visits at our clinic typically cost far less than emergency room visits. The prices listed on our self-pay page reflect the cost of services without insurance.

Can I Visit Atracare Without Insurance?

You can use Atracare’s walk-in clinic without insurance coverage. However, you will be required to pay the entire cost of the visit out of pocket at the time of service. More information about payment policies can be found here.

Urgent Care for Kids

Kids are accident-prone. Almost every kid will break a bone, sprain an ankle, or need stitches at least once. When injuries happen, Atracare is here for you and your family. You can bring your child into our urgent care clinic to receive any of the treatments we offer. Going to the emergency room can be intimidating for kids. Let us take care of you and your family in a calm, quiet atmosphere. We offer speedy pediatric care backed by years of education and experience. You should take your child to the emergency room if they are experiencing seizures, trouble breathing, blue lips, or if they have ingested poison.
